as a first bike, i bought an '06 s40 tripple. i picked it up around $900. the only thing that i didn't like about the bike was the saddle and the wheels. the saddle is always a personal choice. it was hard to keep the wheels true, but i think that was because i used to be a heffer, ~260lbs. i've replaced them with an open pro wheel set.
