I just got a set of used SRAM x9 gripshifts and they feel slightly chunky off the bike going in one direction. The other direction feels good. As i've never had a gripshift in my hand off the bike, is this the way they feel when they don't have the derailur spring to work against?

Is there any maintenance I should do to them before I mount them up?
