Found the receipt for my Schwinn World
This may not be interesting to everyone.
Anyhow, I was digging through a box of stuff I have out in the garage. In the box was the sort of stuff only a boy would have. One of those things was a small plastic bank made to look like an old-time bank vault, complete with combination lock. I opened it, and inside was the long-lost receipt for the purchase of my Schwinn World 12-spd.
It came from Owen Cyclery in Chattanooga, and was purchased on 7/29/89. For whatever reason, I thought it didn't come along until 1990. But 1989 now makes more sense. I got it in between 8th and 9th grade. The receipt is handwritten and says:
1 Schwinn World
Charcoal 25 10speed bicycle
Frame # GA970350
$229.95+tax=$246.62
Funny that it's actually an indexed 12 speed.
I'd been curious how much it cost back then. It was a late birthday present from my granddaddy. I think it was the last big present he gave me before he started getting sick.
Sometime within the first 30 days of ownership, I ended up going over the handlebars in a turn and breaking my collarbone. The bike suffered a small amount of damage. The dealer fixed most of it gratis when we brought it back for its 30 day checkup.
It nearly got away in yard sales in the intervening years, but I retrieved it from my parent's garage a year ago and cleaned it up real nice. It's still on the road and rides quite well. I'm glad I still have it.
