When I ride just, to do some miles, I do a 4+ mile loop with my house somewhat in the center. That way, IF I were to have any problems, I don't have too far to walk the bike back. Saves carrying any gear too.
I'd love to do that, but I get BORED so easily. I'm unhappy unless I have some destination in mind...
