My "wet weather" commuting bike is an early 80's Schwinn World Tourist that belonged to my mother. I swapped the granny saddle for something a little more comfortable, and switched the "north road" bars for some drops, with the 3-speed, internal hub shifter mounted like a bar-con. That coupled with fenders, a rack and a basket on the rack makes it the perfect bike to do anything around town. I put a small cargo net over the basket to keep things in, and it works great. The basket is perfectly sized to hold a 12 pack of beer, or my messenger bag, turned on end. I love the basket and would never look back. That being said, if you do mount a basket to a rack, be careful when lane splitting
