My response to the question if someone asks me why I don't ride on the sidewalk is usually, "Do you really want 300 pounds of bicycle and bicyclist barreling down on your mother at 15 miles per hour as she comes out of the door of the department store with her shopping bag, or would you rather wait for a safe place to pass me on the road?
