I had this setup and it worked fine. My ring was on the outside of the spider too. Theoretically I guess my chainline was off 3mm but measuring the front chainline yielded around 44, no more. With that, it was fine and I never experienced any issues. Maybe it would have been perceptibly better with a perfect chainline, I cannot say for sure.
