His close losses in the 88 Worlds, 90 Paris-Roubaix and the 84 Olympics were his own fault IMHO, not bad luck.
The worlds in 89, where he punctured just over the top of the climb when he was clearly about to rejoin Lemond and Fignon, was where he was really unlucky.
