Well, there is a controversy over motorcycle helmets too, but at least they're a little stonger, have better coverage and slide better.

Around here, I've noticed lots of people wearing bicycle helmets on the scooters that everyone seems to be using to beat the gas prices. Illegal, to be sure, but it seems they're getting away with it.

One of the first things that started me wondering about things with bicycle helmets was that warning sticker inside the helmet. CAUTION! THIS HELMET NOT INTENDED FOR MOTORSPORT USE. Started to make me wonder. If I was hit by a motorcycle, scooter or car, would that be considered motorized use? Why would it be no good if I was travelling on a motorcycle or scooter travelling at the same rate of speed as on my bicycle? I travel at pretty much the same rate of speed and sometimes faster than the flow of traffic.

I know it's just a general warning not to use them on motorcycles, but the question remains, just what are the realistic limitations of a bicycle helmet and how does that play into how people ride in situations that they're likely to encounter.
