Help adjusting older Canti brakes

These brakes are older shimano cantilevers, and I need a little help getting them dialed in. The rears pull too far to one side. Most newer brakes have an adjusting screw to add/remove torque to the spring. These don't seem to have that. I have adjusted the pad's stem all the way out on one side, and fairly far in on the other to accomodate for the off centeredness, but this doesn't seem like the proper way to do it.

The fronts have a different problem. The have so much torque on the spring, they pull in and engage the rim even without the cable hooked up. I can pull them back by hand, but they just spring back in again.

Again, newer brakes have an adjustment screw for this. I can't figure these out though.

There is only 1 hole in the cantilever boss for the spring to mount in, so I cannot adjust them that way either.

What is the secret here???
