I'm not sure it's that. For me, the most disturbing part is "if you don't cease to do X, Y, or Z, the wedding is off." I would be concerned by that kind of ultimatum about
anything that isn't illegal or self-destructive. Perhaps that's why I've never been engaged or married. I don't know.
