The Soma frames are constructed of Tange Prestige, though, and before that Reynolds 631. Surly used to use 631 back in the day IIRC. I love some of the features on the Surly frames, especially the huge clearances, but they really ought to step up and use a higher grade of steel, in at least the front triangle. My only other issue with Surly is their top tube lengths, which have always seemed a bit long.
