Although I have a Mini, I switched from a 48 to a 44t chainring for a little lower gearing.
High end being towards the front of the bike? I haven't had any slippage problems on my VIIIH, but I rarely go above second gear (I haven't decided if really low gears are more important to me than a chaincase or not).
