You need to remove that silver cylinder on the right side (in the pic) of the tool. Hopefully it pops off. Might need a little force, but not much. That cylinder is for splined cranks. Hopefully the tool is designed for that, otherwise you need a different tool with a smaller cylinder.

What's happening is that cylinder is larger than the square, so you are just pushing against the crank.
