Unless I am missing something the threadless stems are not adjustable in the vertical plane once you cut the tube off. I like being able to slide my stem up and down as necessary for adjustment. I have one...count it...one bike with a threadless stem on it. I had them leave it full length and build it up with shims until I decide where I want. I can see how they might be nice for quick swapping for length.
