I have the Cosmos wheels at a shop that is a Mavic dealer - they said they should be able to get them fixed although I won't know until the end of the week if that is really the case.
I have a friend who has some wheels with Shimano hubs, and they have worked well, so I am looking at getting a second set of wheels with Shimano hubs also.
FWIW, if you had to choose between the two types of hubs, the Mavics are really much easier to work on. Plus, you can adjust the bearing play of Mavic hubs when your wheels are on the bike. You certainly cannot do that with Shimano hubs. That's just some differentiation, but Shimanos are still excellent hubs, no question.
