Hey all: I wanted to post a quick review/recommendation for the Wright Stuff Century which is put on by the Bombay Bicycle Club out of Madison. (
www.bombaybicycle.org) (Start is in Mt Horeb, WI) Myself and a few other BFers from the Madison area did all or part of this ride this past weekend.
The ride starts at Tyrol basin ski area (Mt Horeb, WI) and ride options were 30, 60, 80 or 100 miles of hilly roads. This is the same general region as the Horribly Hilly and the Dairyland Dare and though there aren't quite as many hills as those "challenge rides" this was certainly a challenging course- loaded with rolling hills and a couple "granny gear" climbs. That said- you don't have to climb up Mounds Park Rd- not even once. The ride is planned out so you can "decide as you ride" with extra loops that you can choose to take on or not.
The ride is limited to approx 600 riders and there's no timing or mass start so it has a nice laid back feel to it. There were lots of volunteers, well marked routes, and great food at the rest stops. The Bombay Club has been hosting this ride for decades and their experience showed. The post-ride cuisine was tasty with free beers and a buffet for all riders. This ride is definitely something to keep in mind for next Labor Day weekend.
