I have this sneaking suspicion that if you rode the 70 this year you would seriously surprise yourself.
The situation you describe is largely how I wound up riding my century earlier this summer, wanting to ride somewhere other than the local bike trails and routes that I'd done to death. I urge you to go ahead and go for it, if you do, it will be a good time, I promise.
