Riding the Classics in Europe?

When I lived in Holland there was a tradition of riding the routes of the Classics the day (or weekend) before the actual race was to be held. The reasoning behind this tradition is that we civilians are given an opportunity to pick up all the roofing nails and bits of glass from the road before the actual race. I rode the Gent-Wevelgem route with my friends and was curious if anyone else has participated in this while living in or visiting Europe. Any links, info or guidance would be much appreciated!
I'm planning a trip to Flanders in the Spring and would like to ride one of the organized rides while there.

Thanks in advance!
