Undo the cable pinch bolt, and pull on the cable by hand to simulate the spring tension of the FD. Shift the shifter.

If it shifts, clicks and stays put, then your FD limit screw needs to be loosened enough that so the shift lever can move as much as it needs to to reach the click point.

If it doesn't click and stay put, then your problem is in the shifter.
