Nyack Ride Report, Sun. 9.9.07

You should have come down today Penguin. It was right up your alley. Very large field (there had to be 50-60 guys, 90% active racers). They cancelled Bear Mtn, so everybody showed up for Nyack, and now they were pissed. The field included Mike Gisler (TT cup winner in NJ for the past three years), Roger Aspholm (fastest amateur human I personally know of), West Point Ben (21st in the P-1-2 G.C. @ Green Mtn), Ray Diaz (NY Vets racing legend),etc. Very fast pace, but fortunately Roger A. did not drope his hamer until the last mile or so, which meant we didn't have to chase him until the Hook Mtn. finishing climb.

I turned to West Point Ben and asked for permission to attach the BF Bungee Cord to his seatpost at the base of the Col du Blue Hill Plaza climb, and he agreed. The elastic stretched on the upper slopes, but it did not snap. Ditto for the Scratchup climb, where I got slightly gapped going on to 9W where the accelleration chasing a group of 3 off the front made it tough, but managed to chase back. Passed a few mopes on the Hook climb, so I finished somewhere in the top 12 or so. Hey, I make it to 9W with those boys and it was a good day. It is always gratifying to be in the same Zip Code as the top finishers on Nyack.

The only thing missing was KP. Eric, you would have enjoyed duking it out with Ben and Roger (1-2) on Hook today. But nobody catches Roger. That guy should be riding pro, but he actually makes more money as a car mechanic. Plus he's over 35 now. God help the 35+ Vets in NY.

Pcad's ego survived another week. I will be taking two (2), count 'em two (2) rest days this week prior to the Slivermine TT. Rest as in the most athletic endeavor on that day will be watching the Mets game.
