I'll tell ya, it is my experience that a properly mounted and adjusted pair of $10 toe straps work a heck of a lot better than a $50+ pair of improperly mounted and improperly adjusted toe straps.
That being said, I have always found the biggest difference to my pedaling to come from a decent pair of cycling shoes. What I wouldn't give for a decent pair of touring shoes, designed for pedals as opposed to SPD's, like the sneaker style Canondale shoes from the 1980's to be available again. But anyway, with the French and Italian laminated straps starting above $35 now, and the QC not being what it used to be, I wouldn't mind paying a little extra for a second or third pair of Toshi straps. The price just has to be right. And that is why I thought a group buy might be just the thing.
