I thought they taught you in school... "make sure a train isn't coming your way when crossing a rail road" , "Don't change gears while on the tracks", "Do not, for any reason, stop in the middle of the tracks", "Don't try and beat a RR crossing". Even a standard "look both ways" would have done.
