Except here's the thing: what happens if the cops say "you didn't register the bike, nor did you report it stolen and there's nothing we can do"? Posession is 9/10 of the law or some such bull****. "Now go steal it back" you say? OK, fine untill the new "owner" calls and reports it stolen. Now the police are at YOUR door demanding the bike back.
