One approach might be to buy the head set from the LBS, and have them install that. (cheaper than buying the tool you may never use again.) Then do the rest of it yourself.
That is precisely the part that prevents me from trying. I already have the new threadless headset. And getting the old threaded one out is the real hangup here. If it weren't for this, I'd do the job myself.
