Nothing is more hard core than showing up at a ****** filled gym with a daisy chain of webbing and proceeding to make your own harness, then chimbing something overhanging and NOT falling out of it.
Also a damn good skill to know for that one time you show up at the crags without a harness, been there, done that.

12ft section of triple braid nylon, one military carabiner, less than 30 seconds, and I have a swiss seat. Part of my former job at the 101st.
Take that same section and double it, square knot it, one military carabiner and I was ready for Aussie.
all I needed was a Blackhawk or a Huey (love them skids...)
done body raps (not recommended, but good to know how to do) too.
