my ride from last weekend.
A 20% grade for one mile gains 0.2 * 5280 = 1056 vertical feet. Keep that up for eight miles, and you've gained 8,448 feet, which is significantly more then the 2,700 feet you claimed.

2,700 feet over 8 miles averages out to 6.4%. Sounds like a fun climb to me.
