Carhartt hooded sweatshirts are the yardstick by which all other hoodies are measured. Dickies doesn't even come close, quality-wise. I wore a Carhartt for 3 seasons while framing houses on the plains around the Wyoming/Colorado border, and the thing looked hardly used. That's a bitterly cold region, and the sweatshirt took abuse all day long. The zipper failed in the 4th year, but the fabric is in great condition.
Speaking of the yardstick, a friend of mine is a physicist at the South pole. I was looking at some pictures of her time there, and there's one where she's all dressed and getting ready to step outside. It's in the final chamber, before you set foot on Antarctic soil, and behind her there's a sign that reads "Zip Up Your Carhartt," the implication being that no one at the South pole would have anything
but Carhartt.
