2. If you've got the cash to go carbon, you're better off without aluminum. Trust me on this one. Aluminum sucks.
3. You need to decide whether you want a road bike or a tri specific bike. If you're planning to seriously compete, look at the tri specific bike. If this becomes a long-term thing, you'll probably want two bikes.
4. Frames are more important. You can always upgrade components, but a crappy frame will always ride like a crappy frame. The frame is the heart of the bicycle.
6. Go talk to some people that compete in triathalons and get some advice from them. Ask what LBS they recommend. Next, test ride a lot of bikes.
7. Good luck buying a bike off ebay. If you're a noob, you should find a good LBS and let them help you get started.
