Product differentiation and making something incompatible with other common items on the market is not a good business decision though; unless your product is incomprehensibly better than the competition and it's worth the hassle of having to buy /your/ replacement parts and upgrades. It'd be quite hard to do this in something like chain rings though. The Miche Advanced crank is already a pretty noticeable and standout piece of hardware, making it compatible with track standard 144 BCD is a very good move.
