I don't think there's any difference in the frame, that's how they differ in the equipment levels.

The CR1 is a great bike and I'm quite happy with it's performance. Some notes that probably affect sales:

It's ugly. The german dude who designed the graphics should suffer.
It's notoriously stiff. Or not. At 212lbs it works for me even on centuries. Tires matter more anyway.
No replaceable RD hanger. I've never needed one and that damn thing is so beefy the carbon'll break first.
The warranty isn't the best, but again, what are the odds it'll fold up on the average person on the sixth year? You ride that much, you deserve a new bike.

So lots of hand wringing over stuff that doesn't matter much. And frame wise, it's a step up from a Tarmac and a step down from say, a Look 585. Just my $0.02 as an owner.
