I've had probably about 30 crashes while racing, most with a leather 'hairnet' for a helmet. Probably trained 100-150K around cars, without any head protection at all. Doesn't stop me from worrying about that next one which could cause major harm. Last crash at 20mph in Maryland cracked my foam helmet, knocked me out - all I could think of as I came to, 5 mins later, were my kids. Hence the vote for better protection.
