9/23 - Autumn Trek in River Falls, WI. Nice and cool at the start meeting with group from the Wed. night group ride. The consensus is the 65 mile route with one planning the 101 mile. Forecast calls for strong winds from the south and increasing as the day goes. We haed out looking like a force to be reckoned with until about 8 miles in when the call comes up from the back half, "flat." Six of us stop to give Hans the "advice and support" he needs. Takes a while but are soon under way. At the second rest stop got a cool picture of Kathy. Next stop is at the Circle K Orchard where their big festiva weekend is going on. This is about 35 miles into the ride and most has been into a stiff wind, so well needed. Civil War Camp set up there also. The one rider did the 101 miles, most every one else took the 51 mile bail out, and four of us did the 65 route. It was a brutal ride with the wind added to the hilly terrain we have here. My thrill came when I hit 49 mph on the big downhill by Ellsworth. Wore out at the end, but made it to the tee time I had with my wife. A great day!
