Maybe coasting should be packaged with a premium bike service offering, like dispatching roadside assistance for stranded cyclists.
I keep thinking that the development of "Coasting" was driven, in part, by Shimano engineers having created an automatic transmission and looking for a demographic that might want it. Putting in a standard Nexus hub and upgrading the tires to something like Schwalbe Marathon Plus would seem a more sensible alternative. As a former noncyclist, I can say that we expect that bikes should be as reliable as modern cars.
I give "Coasting" lots of credit for having an enclosed chain. Other than that, I'm not sure it meets any real needs. Hope I'm wrong.
