EDITED TO ADD: Just so it's understood, yes, I agree that deeper-section rims are stronger. My point is only that well-built wheels with high-quality parts, regardless of rim depth, will last a hell of a long time.
It depends on the rider and roads. I never got more than 18-20 months out of a 32h Open Pro rear -- perfect build tension. That was through about four different wheels. I even had a shop build one for me in case I was doing something wrong. Nope.
