Went from DT shifters to STI...

for safety's sake. I have one road bike that I use for both utility and recreational/fitness road cycling (I'm car free). I'd add another but I don't have room to put it anywhere (I live in a small apartment and also have an MTB). Anyway, I've been on downtube shifters (it's a 1988 Schwinn Premis frame) and decided to give STI a try to see if it was safer and more efficient for metro riding. I found a Sora 2x7 set for $90 on Jenson and bit. After installing, tuning and going for a 20 mile test ride today, I've decided that they are far safer for dealing with the stop and go and conjestion of Dallas traffic. I still prefer DT shifters (I don't know why, I guess I'm just a regrogrouch--maybe it's because they force me to stay low on the bars), but as long as I'm in Dallas with busy traffic, I'm going to stay with STI. If I was a strict trail rider, I might stay with DT shifters. Anyway, just wanted to let some people know who understand what I'm talking about.
