This is your big chance to convert to a 1950s Simplex Competition "suicide" shifter.
Seriously, because your frame has old school over-the-bottom bracket gear cable routing, you have two options (been there ... done that):
1) find another front derailleur with an integral cable stop and continue to route the cable as before;
2) use a more modern front derailleur, sans cable stop, and route the cable housing under the bottom bracket, which is what I suspect your shop did.
