I really doubt Trek would down grade without lowering the price. That would be misleading and false advertising. A true bait and switch and detrimental to their reputation.
If they indeed lowered the price, none of that reduction was passed on to me. When the price was agreed upon at the time of ordering, and I asked if the specs would be as listed on Trek's website, there was no mention of a discounted price due to downgraded components.
