Need advice for upgrading BB and Chain rings

I ride a 2005 Trek 2100.

Upgrades include:
Mavic 32 spoke Open Pro Wheels/Dura Ace hubs
Dura Ace 9 speed brifters
Dura Ace 9 speed RD
Ultegra brakes
Bar, seat, pedals, light kit etc

I've put 3k miles on it (was off the bike for 1 year before starting again this summer)

The bike fits me well and I like the feel and performance of the Dura Ace bits.
The one remaining part of the bike that really bothers me is the Truvative chainring & bottom bracket set. I recently bought a Trek Fuel EX-8 with the outboard bearings on the BB and I love how solid that set up feels. I weigh 230 lbs and the truvative setup on the 2100 feels pretty flexy as I'm mashing on the hills and I could do without the mystery clicks each time the pedals go around.

So I'd like to replace the BB with one having the outboard bearings and add a decent triple chainring and crank set. I'll replace the stock sram cassette if I need to, but it still shifts silky smooth and I've kept on top of the chain replacements. I can upgrade the 105 FD if need be, but won't unless function dictates doing so.
Not looking for carbon cranks, maybe Ultegra would be good.

My biggest concern is that that the new chainrings work with the 9 speed DA stuff.

Suggestions would be appreicated. I'd like to keep the budget under $400.

Thanks

Nomo .
