So I stopped by the LBS on my way home - they tightened the headset and re-centered my front disc (it was dragging), for free in about 15 minutes. No more clunk, and they let me watch and showed me how to do both adjustments. And I didn't even buy the bike there, it's just my local shop (Bike Tech, for those in Olympia).
