Safety is particularly important with kids. With respect to helmets, for example, adults can do as they like and I would never say anything to an adult who prefers to ride without one (although I think it foolish, as I prefer to keep my brain inside my skull, but that's just me.) But when I see parents allowing their kids to ride without them, it makes my blood boil. I haven't kids of my own, but if I did I wouldn't want their little skulls bouncing on the pavement without some sort of protection.
