Exactly! Anyone that thinks a safety vest is overkill should see my old kiddie trailer, dubbed the Safety Wagon by my husband. I had a full sized slow moving vehicle triangle, two flags, reflective tape on all the framework and blinking LED taillights at all four corners.
Safety is particularly important with kids. With respect to helmets, for example, adults can do as they like and I would never say anything to an adult who prefers to ride without one (although I think it foolish, as I prefer to keep my brain inside my skull, but that's just me.) But when I see parents allowing their kids to ride without them, it makes my blood boil. I haven't kids of my own, but if I did I wouldn't want their little skulls bouncing on the pavement without some sort of protection.
