Sorry to hear about your altercation. It's so hard not to get angry and lash out. I've learned the hard way to keep my mouth shut, though. I've found out that people that scream at strangers on bikes ARE insane. At the risk of starting a war, I would advise taking the lane to prevent this situation. I do it on short narrow bridges and I haven't gotten any complaints.
