I think you are trying to be ironic here or something, but it begs the question...
If you don't believe in or want to participate and build "bike culture" what are you doing lurking around an online bicycle community? seriously. Why do you waste your time here?
Bike culture is real. People who ride have a different attitude towards mobility and everything that that entails esp in America where mainstream culture is dominated by cars and comsumption. In NYC, and around the world in cycling communities, bike people are doers. they make things happen.
In response to the whole "20 somethings in brooklyn" knock.... you do not understand the scene here in ny at all. There is continuity in the alleycat scene that stretched back more than a decade (long before williamsburg became the East Lower Eastside). There are a lot of folks here organizing and participating in bicycling events who have been riding the streets of NY for 10, 15, even 20 years. There is a history here and fixed gear riding is PART of it. That's part of what makes it very cool for me to be here and part of this.
To those of you who think we are self-aggrandizing or arrogant or whatever, we probably are. We have a strong vibrant street riding community and we are PROUD of it. Deal. Sorry if you are the only guy in your town who rides a bike. Be a little more positive and maybe somebody else will want to hang out and ride with you.
