I would like to replace the frame and fork tubing decals on one of my French bikes. The frame decal is damaged and one fork decal is missing. These are actually the foil type stickers (see the photos below) for an older Vitus steel tubing first manufactured in the late 1970s, but still produced well into the 1980s and possibly even later. Introduced during an era when either Reynolds or Columbus tubing ruled the bike tubing world, it seems to have been seldom used. So, I suspect the decals or stickers may likewise be pretty rare.
I've only seen one other image of the decal. That was in a photo posted on a French website, on a Rene Herse racing bike from 1980. "Super Vitus 971" was an very light double-butted tubing, actually a bit lighter then double-butted Reynolds 531. My large frameset (60 cm. c-t), built up with Prugnat long point lugs and Simplex dropouts, weighs only 5 pounds 13 ounces (2,670 grams). That's pretty light.
Just a long shot, but thought I'd ask if anyone may know of a possible source for the stickers. Nothing has ever turned up on eBay, and I've seen no leads through internet searches. So, I'd appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks!
Bob
