If you pedal toes down all the way around a la Lance/Davis Phinney you can probably get away with a higher saddle. Heels down like Steve Bauer would warrant a lower saddle.

I thought it was center of crank to top of the lowest part on the saddle (or the center part)? That would vary less when going from seat to seat.
I measure right up the seatpost to the top of the saddle.
