My gut is telling me that even in great shape, after two weeks on a bike that 22.65 mph is probely the most realistic.

If the OP wants to prove himself, he's got to go all out with a helmet cam, calibrated bike computer, and post the results. Until then, it's all just words spoken on the internet and most won't believe him.
Our local rails-to-trails/MUP is pretty fast, but it also has mile markers that vary between .9 and 1.15mi between them.

To the OP:

Dude, if you're for real, there is money to be made in bike racing, particularly time trials. Not huge amounts, but if you can throw down a 52:00 40k some day, there will be people who will give you free bikes, wheels, etc., and perhaps be willing to pay your way to various events. Perhaps pay you.

And, even if your time wasn't accurate, I wish you all the best. Riding has helped me meet some of my best friends, and has provided me with an outlet for my (nervous) energy. I hope it can do the same for you.
