The "for aluminum rims" means the pads aren't intended for all carbon rims with carbon braking surfaces. There are special pads for all-carbon rims but they are quite unusual.

Any pad that doesn't say it's for carbon is automatically suitable for aluminum rims. The only problem with salvaged old pads is they might be age hardened and won't brake as effectively as new ones.
