Same for packages, USP focus with sponsoring the team was to get more exposure out there in the world that the Postal service is a viable alternative to using UPS or FedEx (or the other shippers out there).
yes a viable alternative for US based users who wish to send packages both domestic and abroad. I cannot use UPS services from the Netherlands can I.
US Postal sponsoring this team has brought them MILLIONS of dollars worth of extra exposure that they didn't pay for, part of the early deal with US Postal was that the team had to deliver something like $3-4 worth or "marketing" for every $1 they spent. The team always made that goal.
The lawsuit against the Postal service had nothing to do with the above, the Postal service is a quasi-government organization, so every year that the post office needs money the tax payers have to pay up. Some tax payers (or in this case an activist group) decided, much like yourself, that USP shouldn't sponsor bicycle racing. It doesn't matter that the USP's losses have nothing to do sponsoring this team, it doesn't matter that USP's overseas shipping number have gone up because of the sponsorship. The general public doesn't understand how intricate sponsorship works from the marketing side, all they hear is how this organization is being supported by tax payers and they are sponsoring some whacky european bicycle racers.
The TdF is something like the 3rd most watched sporting event in the world, it's far surpassed being just a "european" event.
Andrew
Despite teh ta fact that the event is broadcast globally, the main commercial interest is focussed on European based companies. Yes Cola Cola and others are also present and provide millions, their presence is focussed on this one event which is actually my point.
UPS main focus is extracting maximum benefit from exposure gained in the TdF hence the cycling team's focus is doing well in this event, to gain that exposure. They don;t feature much in other events because the American publc is largely unaware tat cycling actually takes place in europe from Late February through to October.
Therefore the person that claimed that UPS focusses on the TDF has credibility because in fact their main focus is the TdF for the benefit of their sponsors.
understand?
