By winning the TDF that year he became only the second man to win the TDF and Paris Roubaix in hte same year since 1910 (two guys did it in hte very early years).
He is also only of only 2 riders to cross the final finish line first in Yellow. (he did this twice)
Come to think of it he also is one of only 2 riders to have won all 3 major jerseys in the TDF.
Pretty rarified company. And yes the obvious guess about the other rider is correct.
