I've always lived by the phrase. Death before DNF. So yeah I would walk, limp, or crawl if I had to. You must try to gain any position you can all the time, and never give up.
I'm imagining the poor race organizer:
Organizer: "Uh, dude? We need to pick up the cones. The volunteers want to go home. How about we just list you as having finished?"
OCLV (crawling): "NO! NOT ... FINISHED ... NOT ... DEAD ... YET!"
Organizer: "Uhm, yeah, so ... we're getting kind of worried? The paramedics think you might be having some kind of 'event.'"
OCLV: "ONE ... LAP ... TO ... GO ... RING ... BELL"
Organizer: "Oh, yeah. [ring ring] So how 'bout calling it a day, champ?"
